French Animal Booklets

French: I can develop vocabulary based on the theme: animals; I can practice pronunciation. 

Over the past couple of months, we have been exploring Animal vocabulary in French. Some ways we have learned and practiced the vocabulary include: repeating vocab works with Ms Elder, searching out and recording the names of animals at the Zoo, playing BINGO, reading books, drawing mixed up animals on whiteboards and guessing each others' and worksheet games. 

We have shown our learning through a French booklet. Each page has a picture of a mixed-up animal, and a sentence underneath describing its body parts. For example, this page by Rochael says, 

My animal has the head of a bunny. My animal has the fin of a dolphin. My animal has the leg of a wolf.



We each met with Ms Elder one-on-one to read her our booklet in both French (to check our pronunciation), and English (to check our understanding). Then, we went over our marks together.

Today, we shared our French booklets with our Grade 1/2 buddies. We taught them some animal and body part words in French. We are bringing our booklets and marks home today. :)

Summer Solstice

Ralph Klein Park Field Trip Recount

  We had a fabulous day yesterday at Ralph Klein Park. The weather was outstanding and the surroundings were beautiful. We had top-notch programming led by Chelsea from the City of Calgary. Here are some highlights of our learning and photos of the day. In the morning, Chelsea asked us to tell her what a wetland is, what the parts of a wetland are (there are submerged plants, emerged plants and floating plants), and which different wetlands are found in Alberta (marsh, swamp, fen, bog). Some of this was review of what we learned in the fall and some was new information. Then, we played a game where we had wetland creatures taped to our backs and we had to ask Yes-No questions to figure out who we were.  That led us to talking about specific wetland invertebrates and their interesting adaptations. Puberty Homework

The Grade 4 students are completing an assignment called " The Me to Be ". The instructions and hand out are posted in the Google Classroom for reference.  Grade 4s, this is a reminder that you may want to ask your parents for help remembering back to what you were like in Grade 1. You may also want to gather materials to bring in for your collage.  We will be working on them Monday . Please come prepared to work on your collage then. I'll have glue, scissors, and paper ready. :)     Grade 5 students have a crossword puzzle for homework that must be completed WITH a trusted adult. This is to help build their support network for who they can ask Puberty-related questions to. This homework is due Friday, June 17 .
