French Fashion Show

Image
French: I can learn vocabulary relating to clothing; I can speak in French with more accurate pronunciation  Today we showcased our learning in French by having our fashion show. We strutted our stuff around the classroom while a classmate read our scripts for us. We worked with Ms Elder earlier this week to mark our scripts together, then during the fashion show, Ms Elder marked our pronunciation of the vocabulary we've been practicing. Our marks will go home on Monday.  Many kids said it was so much fun to see the creativity in outfits and to model for the class. :) We learned lots of clothing vocabulary words. We also learned how the French language has gendered items and you need to change the gender of the colour (ex: bleu -> bleue if the object is feminine). The same for plural words (more than one), where you add an 's'.  We continued our pronunciation work that we started at Halloween. We know that words that end in an 's' or 't' have silent lette

Fused Glass Residency

Art: I can explore different media. Science: I can explain signs of different seasons; I can identify characteristics of different trees. Yesterday, we participated in an art residency with Clay for Kids. We learned about glass art and how the kiln is heated differently from making clay. We were able to layer different colours of glass on top of each other and they will melt together when heated.  Ms Rachel and Ms Kelly guided us to make a piece of art with birch trees. We got to choose the season our artwork took place in. We could add details like leaves, snow, a sun, and sky, along with our birch trees. We learned what frit was and how it was the final step. Here are some pictures of our work in progress. We'll get the finished pieces back in January.

Minecraft Celebration

Citizenship in Learning: I can design something that meets the needs of the community. Personal Development through Learning: I can persevere through challenges; I can collaborate and work effectively with my group members. Character in Learning: I can stay on task. This week, we celebrated our Minecraft work. There is so much that we could say about this project. Here is a quick recap with a reflection from each group.  We started by learning the difference between collaborating and cooperating . Ms Elder gave us a task where we designed new animals (like, the head of a shark, the wings of an eagle...). This was a way for us to learn and practice collaborating (making sure everyone in the group has an idea in the final product). This was a fun challenge that really taught us how to work as a team.  "This was good to help us cooperate, collaborate, and take turns." ~ Iggy We then learned about the City of Calgary Minecraft Challenge . We attended two live sessions and got
