Lever Centers

Science: I can explore and test simple machines; I can use scientific vocabulary; I can record my observations. Today, we were learning about levers and there were three stations. Each centre focused on one of the classes of levers. First class levers have the fulcrum in the middle, second class have the load in the middle and the third class levers have the effort in the middle.  Some examples of first class levers are: seesaw, crowbar, scale, scissors, binder clip Some examples of second class levers are: nutcracker, stapler, wheelbarrow Some examples of third class levers are: tongs, rake, tweezers "I learned how to use tongs and how to use different types of levers in different ways." ~ Enzo "I learned what first, second, and third class levers are." ~ Liam "I think we did this to test out first, second, and third class levers." ~ Callie "I learned that there are a lot of levers in our world and they look very different from one another."

Tennis!

This week in our class, we learned a new sport called Tennis. We had a fantastic coach who we nicknamed, Terrific Tennis Tyler. :)  Tyler taught us different skills like how to hold the racket, how to turn our body when the ball is approaching, and how to hit it softly over the net. "I learned in tennis how to do the forehand and backhand swings." ~ Sadie "I learned a couple of new practice drills." ~ James "It was fun to learn tennis because I didn't know how to do it and now I know." ~ Callie "It was very hard balancing the ball on the tennis racket. I learned that tennis is a lot like badminton." ~ Lillian "I think tennis was really fun and I used to be horrible at tennis and now I'm a little bit better." ~ Lawrence  "We played a really fun game that was like line tag but you had to balance your tennis ball on your racket." ~ Vance "I liked all the games we learned and played. I think they were really fun and t

We need toilet paper rolls and empty cereal boxes!

Help us explore Simple Machines by bringing in toilet paper rolls and empty cereal or cracker boxes.  We'll be building devices next Friday. Thanks!
