French Folk Songs



French: I can develop my French vocabulary and pronunciation; I can develop an understanding of the French culture.

For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning the vocabulary for trees in French to coincide with our learning of plants in Science. We read stories, reviewed vocabulary, and learned the lyrics to the classic Quebecois folk song, L'Arbre Est Dans Ses Feuilles.

We have learned about wooden spoons and how to play them, as well as some cultural connections to Quebec. It had been our plan to videotape us singing the song and playing the spoons but due to technical challenges, this sadly could not happen. 

Instead, we can sing the song for you at home! If you're interested, here are some of the videos we watched as a class:

Ralph Klein Park Field Trip Recount

  We had a fabulous day yesterday at Ralph Klein Park. The weather was outstanding and the surroundings were beautiful. We had top-notch programming led by Chelsea from the City of Calgary. Here are some highlights of our learning and photos of the day. In the morning, Chelsea asked us to tell her what a wetland is, what the parts of a wetland are (there are submerged plants, emerged plants and floating plants), and which different wetlands are found in Alberta (marsh, swamp, fen, bog). Some of this was review of what we learned in the fall and some was new information. Then, we played a game where we had wetland creatures taped to our backs and we had to ask Yes-No questions to figure out who we were.  That led us to talking about specific wetland invertebrates and their interesting adaptations. Puberty Homework

The Grade 4 students are completing an assignment called " The Me to Be ". The instructions and hand out are posted in the Google Classroom for reference.  Grade 4s, this is a reminder that you may want to ask your parents for help remembering back to what you were like in Grade 1. You may also want to gather materials to bring in for your collage.  We will be working on them Monday . Please come prepared to work on your collage then. I'll have glue, scissors, and paper ready. :)     Grade 5 students have a crossword puzzle for homework that must be completed WITH a trusted adult. This is to help build their support network for who they can ask Puberty-related questions to. This homework is due Friday, June 17 .
