Locked Room & Last Day

Yesterday, we were fortunate to be invited to do the Mobile Escape Room that the Grade 5/6's had organized. In groups of 5-6, we worked our way through the four centres that Logan and Mark of the Mobile Escape Room had set up for us.

There was an underwater submarine, a pharaoh's tomb, a time machine, and a puzzle-making station.  We had to use teamwork to figure out clues, solve puzzles, and piece information together to escape. Here are a few pics of us in action!

Exploring the Time Machine

You might think this was all fun and games, but actually, there were a lot of science connections from our learning this year:

"We learned about simple machines this year and these escape rooms and escape objects had a lot of simple machines in them, like in the time machine where there were gears." ~ Vance
"They used simple machines in the tomb of pharaohs to make the maze, using a pulley." ~ Suzi
"In pretty much all of them, they had electro-magnetic connections. You had to put the pieces on the lights, which lit the lights and opened the tomb." ~ Seb C
"As well, in the tomb of pharaohs, on the tomb, they had an axel that you could twist and pull out something." ~ Seb K
"Also, in the Time Machine, there were screws we had to screw in to get it to open." ~ Dillon
"In the tomb of pharaohs, there was a lever." ~ Rochael
"In the submarine, there were some off and on buttons that you had to figure out the code." ~ Tanya
"It was really fun but for me and my group, for both of the trailer escape rooms, we got to the last puzzle and then the time ran out." ~ Rochael
"Ours was the same - for the Tomb of Pharaoh, it was hard to pull the lever to get the door open. In the submarine, we got everything and we didn't know we had to hold it in the right spot." ~ Callie
"On the Time Machine, there were these secret screws that had energy in it so when you screwed them in, something would happen but an electrical current went through it." ~ Seb C

One final farewell to all my wonderful, intelligent, caring students. :) I will miss you SO much!

Parents, thanks for being so supportive this year. Your child is coming home with a Term Two Self Reflection (like a report card that they have written for themselves). Please take time to read through this together.

Have a safe and relaxing summer!
~ Ms Elder
