Music News!!!


We are very excited to have the opportunity to view the Calgary Opera's virtual presentation of Dean Burry's The Brothers Grimm next week.  This virtual opera is performed by the McPhee Artist Development Ensemble with Musical Direction by Mel Kirby.

We will be viewing it during music class and we will be discussing the various parts of the Opera including singing parts, opera terminology, and how an opera contains a variety of forms of music.   We are very fortunate that Calgary Opera offers this presentation free of charge to our schools.  Hopefully your child will be able to share with you all about the opera at the end of next week!  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Serra at jeserra@cbe.ab.ca

Summer Solstice

  SS: I can appreciate oral stories and how they teach us about Indigenous People and life lessons Art: I can experiment with different media Oki ! Happy Summer Solstice and National Indigenous Peoples Day! We learned about local Indigenous cultures and their Summer Solstice celebrations today in a few ways.  We started our day by learning about Natoosi (the sun, in Blackfoot) from Elder Saa'kokoto online. We listened to the Chickadee Story from Chantelle (Metis) online and participated in the Summer Solstice song gifted to the CBE by the Metis people.  We also worked on learning how to braid (either a basic 3-strand braid or an advanced 6-strand braid). Ralph Klein Park Field Trip Recount

  We had a fabulous day yesterday at Ralph Klein Park. The weather was outstanding and the surroundings were beautiful. We had top-notch programming led by Chelsea from the City of Calgary. Here are some highlights of our learning and photos of the day. In the morning, Chelsea asked us to tell her what a wetland is, what the parts of a wetland are (there are submerged plants, emerged plants and floating plants), and which different wetlands are found in Alberta (marsh, swamp, fen, bog). Some of this was review of what we learned in the fall and some was new information. Then, we played a game where we had wetland creatures taped to our backs and we had to ask Yes-No questions to figure out who we were.  That led us to talking about specific wetland invertebrates and their interesting adaptations. Puberty Homework

The Grade 4 students are completing an assignment called " The Me to Be ". The instructions and hand out are posted in the Google Classroom for reference.  Grade 4s, this is a reminder that you may want to ask your parents for help remembering back to what you were like in Grade 1. You may also want to gather materials to bring in for your collage.  We will be working on them Monday . Please come prepared to work on your collage then. I'll have glue, scissors, and paper ready. :)     Grade 5 students have a crossword puzzle for homework that must be completed WITH a trusted adult. This is to help build their support network for who they can ask Puberty-related questions to. This homework is due Friday, June 17 .
